- Provenance:
• Collection of Mr. Paul A. (1899–1976), former director of the Chalcographie du Louvre, founder and then president of the Presses Universitaires de France from 1934 to 1968.
- Documentation:
• A handwritten card from the family archives notes: “purch. 1944, head of a smiling Buddha, grey soft sandstone, Angkor, Bayon style, late 12th–early 13th century.”.
• Provenance statement by the collector’s daughter-in-law, Christiane Angoulvent, confirming that the object comes from her father-in-law’s collection.
• Export certificate issued by the French Ministry of Culture on December 13, 2022.
